The Door is Central
The door is central
Always central
For it must be found
Before you can go through it
Like the cat
We are curious
Want to know what is on the other side
Can you imagine a door?
Open
Slightly ajar
And not going through it?
No, and neither can I
I want to know
Who might be waiting
On the other side
What is to be found
Like entering an attic
Things from other times
Put away and forgotten
Old friends
Past lives
Hopes and goals
Nothing of any real value
But interesting
That one day, they existed
In our lives
And in that time seemed very important
for Mary's prompt at What's Going On?
The door is found, slightly ajar, inviting but we can't enter may be because it's not yet time. I like the reflections and the depth of feeling here.
ReplyDelete"on the other side, what is found" interesting poem that asks questions. Well done.

No definitely not! An open door is always a mystery.
You want to find out what is on the other side!
Annell, The expressive immediacy of your descriptions from the beginning prepare us for the particular, "Like entering an attic/Things from other times." You expand on this so vividly, so poignantly. A rich, absorbing poem belying its brevity.
ReplyDeleteDoors are inviting, Annell, and I love the way you captured that in your poem, espcially the lines:
ReplyDelete‘Like the cat

Want to know what is on the other side’.
