WHALES
To me whales are like
Fairy tales
I love them
But have never really seen them
I grew up on the third coast
And whales never came to our shores
Perhaps it was too warm
Or too far away?
There were other sea creatures
Living there
Fish of all kinds, shrimp, crabs and sea
horses
My Son loved the sea creatures
He had a large aquarium
And would carefully collect
The sea creatures and put them
In his aquarium
At night we would sit on the deck
And watch the wild and wonderous
Things he would gather
Perhaps the most interesting
Were the hermit crabs
They would march along the glass
And show off their shells
We called it, the parade of homes
They seemed very proud of their shells
We had some beautiful shells from
Other locations
We dropped them into the tank
The greedy crabs would claim them
Hang onto them with one hand
While keeping their original shells
This is an interesting poem and i like how it plays on words. The sea is certainly a mystery.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all of the details in your poem, Annell. The hermit crabs seem to be interesting creatures!
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how I Loved the first two lines! Most beautiful, Annell. I also love how other sea creatures brought home to you some wonderful memories that was once created and of course I thoroughly enjoyed your observations about the greedy crabs.
